When I was a kid we just left them alone? Do you have to worm them? What about the chick I hatch? Is there a good wormer that covers everything? My girls are healthy and I want them to stay that way! Any info would be great!

We like to keep them and medication free as we can!

We use food grade diatomaceous earth to worm all our animals. It works on people too and helps to strengthen bones as well. It also makes an excellent dust for dust bathing. We sprinkle some in the places where our chickens routinely bathe. It acts by putting micro slices into the exoskeletons of bugs and dehydrates them. It doesn't smell and doesn't really have any taste either. It's a little chalky, but otherwise no taste.

ra and beewell i recommend you read the message by Chicken-Jay,"De-worming and Wazine concern." i follow threehorses advice to the letter and have not had any worm issues.

I have used ACV (apple cider vinegar in my flock waters
1 -2 tablespoons in a gal of water .If
it has to strong of odor flock
wont take to it, so just adjust the measureing But
mine are doing great.
since first hatch. and never has a worm problem.
and have never lost any.

Sissy. ACV,DE, cayenne pepper,VtRx,pumpkin seeds etc...are all good preventatives, however, they wont kill worms especially if there's an infestation. worms are everywhere in the soil, grass and bugs. a minimum one year worming schedule is recommended at the least. i use bragg's non filtered ACV in their water and still worm my chickens
