I'm using DE in my coop and run, and wondered how often I should be applying to both areas? Weekly, monthly? How long does the DE remain effective?

I too asked this question before but never could find the answer. I am interested in everyone's answers. I am hoping that I don't use it too much. I have lots of flies and would like to use some more but just sprinkled it about 2 weeks ago. How often does everyone use theirs?

To Letsgobucks: Your central Ohio may be too far south but...Copley Feed and Supply in Copley Ohio sells food grad DE. It is expensive from them...$16 for a small container. I forgot to check the weight, but it is about the size of a large laundry detergent bottle. I'm still checking to find it in a larger quantity and smaller price!

I just got mine for $40.00 for a 50 # bag of PermaGuard. On their website http://perma-guard.com/index.html, go to the bottom of the page where it says local distributor. Click on your state . I called the distributor and they gave me the local Feed Store that carries it (only 20 miles away)

I bought a 50# bag last summer and have about 25% of it left, I have a very big set and use this stuff religously. In low chicken traffic area's it last longer months even as for the pen's coop's & run's I re-apply when they get cleaned out or the hay get's changed once a month. I apply more often in the nest boxes as that hay gets changed more frequently, I use it with every bag of new feed in the summer months to prevent clumping in the high humidity. I love this stuff and my second bag is already on order, when sprinkled around it goes a long way since it has the consistancy of talkem powder.
