How old are Barred Rocks and Buff Orpingtons when they start to lay?

I'm wondering when to expect to see some eggs from my girls. We have 2 buff orps and 2 barred rocks. They're 14.5 weeks, so I'm thinking sometime in 4-8 weeks? Or is that too optimistic? We do have a heat lamp in their coop.

My BO was about 5 months. She started squattinga bout 2 weeks before she started. Dont have a BR though.

My BOs took around 6 months. And the eggs will start out small ("pullet eggs") and get larger with time.

Start looking at about 19 wks. That is when to open nest boxes and put fake eggs in. The winter weather may slow them down a bit though.

22 to 33 weeks for my BRs and my friends BOs started at 20 weeks.

I have a barred rock that just laid on the 23rd for the 1st time. She was 21wks 3days and it had been fairly cold too!

As you can see there's a variety of answers. I know someone with a 9 month old BR who STILL hasn't laid. Just don't expect the earliest.

My BR is almost 20 weeks and no eggs, but she has a huge red comb!
