How old are cochins

when they lay their first egg? Mine are about four and a half months old and I found a pretty small egg today. Just wondering if it came from one of them, or one of my older hens.

Actually, I guess I should have said that they're Cochin - Red Island Red mix. Mama was a Cochin and Daddy was a RIR. Don't know if that matters or not.

Cochins are usually later to mature, but I have a Cochin/Silkie x Barred Rock pullet who started laying at 18 weeks. Surprised me!

mine laid her first 2 days ago, she was 4 1/2 months - so i am guessing thats normal. i know it was her though, since the only chickens i have out there is her my bantam cochin and an EE. the EE is younger too...
