How old are hens when they go broody??

Many never go broody. It's been bred out of many breeds in favor of high egg production. It varies with the ones that do. I had a Buff Orpington go broody within a month of laying her first egg.

as said its bred out of some hens.an some go broody shortly after they start laying.an for some spring causes them to go broody.

My buff orpington laid for three weeks, then went broody for four. Her genetics are right for brooding...she successfully raised three. My wyandotte has not gone broody, but my australorp has "dabbled" in it.
