How old are my chicks?

Your buff looks the same colour as mine and she is a pure so dont worry :)
Mine are 2.5 weeks and dont have as many feathers so I'd say yours are 3-3.5 weeks but different breeds grow at slightly different rates. my Buff and RIR are nearly twice the size of my Worwerk but have the same amount of feathers coming through! Good luck with your babies!

Sorry, complete newbie here. So are you saying that a buff Orpington would not have white feathers? Is that little pale yellow chick going to be white when she's full grown??

Thanks for all the insight!!!

Betsy

Buff Orps are a tawny color from the first feather. When a chick feathers in white, it could be that it will be a solid white adult but it's more likely you're seeing dominant white that is hiding other colors. If that is the case, you will see those start to show through as the feathering completes and more as the first molts occur. Females often get peachy tones around the head/neck/chest while males often get red on the wing/back and some black streaks in the tail. Those are not the only possibilities but they are the most common.

If you have a white-feathered chick, it's either an albino or not a buff Orpington.

EEs are known for fast feathering/growth because of hybrid vigor. I have one that was covered on the head/neck at 3 weeks -- she had long wingtips when I got her at three days and was looking like the photo above at one week. There is lots of variation but most hatchery chicks are getting side chest feathers at three.

Your "buff Orpington" looks just like my ee, Winnie, as a chick. Here is her chick pic and most recent photo.

Awwww, she's beautiful! :) I will show this to my 5-yr-old as this is "her" chick. :)

Thanks!
Betsy

so far with my chicks that have been hatching out the ones that start out white tend to have that as a base color, its been varied though, but so far its been white with brown/black "lacey" speckles, white with brown wings, and a columbian...idk how i got columbian.... all my birds are brown, red, or light brown

Here they are attempting to roost on the edge of the tote box despite how slippery it is. :). They get up there all on their own. (Proud new chicken mama!)
