I just recently fell in love with silkies, bought my first ones, and I am completely clueless when it comes to telling the approximate age of them.

Do they feather out slower than bantam cochins, in regards to age? How old do these 2 appear to be? I am considering selling them, and I have an idea on how old they are, but I want to see if my opinion is accurate.

My chicks will be 2 weeks old monday and they don't look like that yet. I'm gonna have to say about 4-5 weeks old? Just a Guess.

My previous silkie chick at about 7 weeks old

The person I bought them from has told me that they are 6 weeks old now. But I'm used to my bantam cochins...much more feathered out, no bare butts, etc. These guys just look so "immature" to be 6 weeks, but I guess they are.

The person I got them from has been showing Silkies for 16 years, so I know she knows her stuff. I just wanted to see if everyone else's chicks look about the same at this age. And yes, they are in a very awkward/ugly stage right now...I don't think my cochin chicks look this rough at any age!

So now, since I guess the 6 week age is pretty accurate, then I'm going to offer one of them for sale.

No, they weren't sexed. I've made up my mind to sell the one in the top pick. It came from a porcelain hen and a lemon blue roo...very pretty, but not one of my faves. As I said, these chicks are "culls" from show birds. If you're still interested, just let me know.
