How old do quail live to?

Im just wondering that becouse im getting some cotunrix quail soon.

This is kinda like the question..."how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll?" Most of the birds I raise make it ~8 weeks before heading to freezer camp. The breeders that are kept stay around less than a year before egg production falls off at which point they are replaced with fresh pairs.

I've heard that the average life span is typically 1-2 years but I can't personally attest to that. Interesting question...

Well cant say much for cotunrix, but bobwhite can easily live to 8 to 10 years old.. i have 2 pairs of 5 year old breeders, plus many young breeders as well, the 5 year breeders lay an egg daily for me just as well as the younger pairs and they are also the first to give eggs in the start of the season....

the oldest coturnix i know of living is Citalk2much but i forget how many years i think 5? But im not sure.


but yes they can live to be around 5-8 years old i've read as well (coturnix) BUT it's mostly males that live that long because hens get so burnt out laying eggs. But if you let them slack off every winter season you should be lucky enough to let them live very long. Some of my hens are almost a year old.

Yap I have one that will be 5 this year. I had gotten to in as rescues they where rasied on bird seed the male had a very badly broken leg they where super under weight nice right a school had hatched them and the teacher sent each kid home with two and a bag of bird seed told the kids to release them into the wild when they got bigger. The big dumb dumb. Any way the male pasted this winter the female a brown is doing well very nice bird she only ever layed at the most 10 eggs. I think that was due to her poor start in life.
Oh by the way that school will never do that again I had the DNR fix that!

thay live for about 1 year to a year and half then die the life span is longer in breeding pens than the wild
