My rooster is about 5 moths old and he does a dance to the hen but the hen runs away.i got a hen that is about 3 months old and she runs away when the rooster dances.how old do they got to be to mate?

Hens start to lay around 6 months of age. Mating is not always a hens choice so keeping around 10 hens for every roo helps keeps your hens from being over bred. One hen wont satisfy a roo. If over bred not only does the hen loose her back feathers from constant mating she will be so stressed that you wont get eggs.

My rooster started trying about 3 1/2mos. Now he's definitely got it down at almost 5mos. I have a hen that's been laying for almost 2 weeks now (started at 4mos 1 week) he loves her, the others haven't started yet, but I have seen him mount another and finish, and try to mount others.

Also, he might not be doing a mating dance thing, he might be telling her he's ticked off. My rooster doesn't dance, he just grabs the back of the neck of the one he wants to mount, gets into position, and tries to proceed. Sometimes he's successful and other times she wins.
