I have always been told when they are about the same size.

The chicks need to be about the size of the hens. This is so they can defend themselves & vie for pecking order.

They shouldn't be small enough to be hurt by the other chickens too much so you need to look at your smallest baby and look at the biggest one outside.
Also, you need to take in consideration temperature. Wait until they are 6 to 8 weeks old before you put them outside.
