I am going to a chicken show tomorrow. I plan to purchase a couple of older pullets of certain breeds to add to my flock. I can tell the age of young/baby birds, but after a year old how would I know? This is my first backyard flock!
Thank you

You want to look at the comb and waddle size. They should be large and waxy. Also (if your not squeamish) look at the vent, it should be moist. Also check the pelvic bones, in a hen that is laying you should be able to fit two fingers between them.
