How Old Is This Chicken?

I bought a couple of chickens from a breeder at a local ranch. I think she lied to me about the age of this Wheaten Maran. She said that it was the same age as my Blue Splashed Copper Maran and yet the Blue Splashed already has its foot feathers almost fully grown in whereas the Wheaten's foot feathers are just starting to grow. I think the Wheaten is way younger than the Blue Splashed. Here's some photos...What do you all think? When should I expect to get some of my first chocolate eggs? The Breeder told me she was a month away from laying and I think that she's at least two months old and it'll be a while til' she starts to lay. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Angela

Oh no. I'm a new user and can't post photos yet. Darn it. Anyway, maybe you can tell me what to look for and how to tell a chicken's age by looking at its physical features.

Thanks.

Here's a photo of my Wheaten Maran that I think is much younger than the seller told me. You can see the Blue Splashed Maran's feet feathers in the background and how much more developed they are. The seller told me they were the same age and I doubt it. Thanks in advanced for helping me out.

Thanks. Someone has got to know. Don't you think?

She looks like a pullet. How old did the breeder say they were?

I have a black copper maran. All I know is his foot feathers were there when he was hatched. Some just have more feathery feet then others from what I've been told..

The breeder told me they should be laying in a month. I don't think they are going to. I think it'll be a couple of months instead. She definitely is a pullet. I'm thinking the feathers in her feet will grow in more and her comb will change before she begins laying. She's very small compared to the others we also bought that are five months. This one is lighter and scrawnier when I hold her.

My wheaten marans are 2 months old now and look younger than your girl. Mine still have some baby feathers on their heads! Also your girl's tail feathers are longer than mine.

One of my Wheatens legs are fully feathered (more like your blue splashed), while the other is barely feathered on her feet. I've had them since they were a few days old, but their legs are completely different, feathering-wise. Yours also has a pinker and more developed earlobe and wattle area. My girls' combs are both still quite yellow.

I hope this helps!

If I had to guess, I'd say 3 months.
