How Old Is This Chicken?

Awesome information. Thank you. That does help a lot. I'll keep that in mind when I'm anticipating eggs and for my future age guessing skills. Thanks again.

Maybe the breeder just didn't know exactly when she was hatched, instead of lying.. I'd be more concerned that she is OLDER than they told you.. Mine were all supposed to be born in April, but NONE are laying yet :| They don't have dark combs yet either.. I just think she had too many to keep track. This isn't a good thing though.. I would just avoid that breeder in the future.

At least you will have eggs soon enough. I'd guess anywhere from 3 - 5 months old. I wish I had researched chickens more before I got my first four. I wouldn't trade them for anything though..

At least she looks like a hen and not a rooster!

Yes. She definitely looks like a hen. When we were on the farm looking at all the chickens she had available, she was pretty certain which were hens and which were roos. I do look forward to her eggs because they will be my first chocolate eggs. I think mine were born around April too. What do yours look like? I think I will avoid that breeder too - but she had so many cool and rare breeds. We bought our blue-laced wyandotte from her and our welsummer. Research is good and so is this website and forum. You can get a lot of research done in this one place! I wouldn't trade mine for anything either.

Thanks,
Angela (dsquawker)
