How old must they be? HELP!

If you want to know how big to build a coop, rule of thumb is 4 sg.feet per bird in the coop and 10 sg.feet per bird in the outside run. If you can give them more room they will appreciate it. Crowded chickens start feather picking and bullying and taken to extremes will exhibit cannibalism.

Chickens aren't generally measured to the top of their heads, most of their time is spent, bent over scratching and pecking at the ground.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. The other BYC members have given you some good advice. I always move my chicks out into the coop when they are fully feathered (usually at 5 to 6 weeks). Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What kind of hens do you have?
