The commercial laying machines (known as sex links, ISA Browns, and a LOT of other names) generally start laying by 16 to 20 weeks. Other, more heritage type breeds will lay by 5 1/2 to 6 months (22 to 24 weeks). Some larger breeds may not lay until nearly 8 months (32 weeks). Just like a watched pot never boils....new pullets seem to not lay while we are anxiously waiting. LofMc
