How old were you?

Oh, heck no. My wife wanted the son to stay at home and go to the local tech college to get his general ed credits out of the way and then head off to finish at a four year school. I said no way. He ended up going to a University of Wisconsin school about two hours from here. Just far enough away for him to learn some independence and responsibility, but still come home every now and again. He's in his second year there now.

The first few weeks he was in school he called me saying that the college didn't get his transcripts from high school. My response? "What the heck are you calling me for? Handle it." He's catching on...

Good for you! And yes it can be done. I've been there myself. July 13th 2010 made 23 years clean & sober.
Some of us just have to learn the hard way.

That right there is the truth!!! I learned that hard way, and I SOOOOO glad my son is drug resistent. He HATES people that use and the smell of pot, etc. YAY!!!

My ex-husband (then boyfriend) and I moved out of my dad's house and got our own place when I was 18....but now I'm living at dad's house again

10 years ago I would have been the same way. With the jobless rate at 17% here, I can't just toss him into the street when he is trying, and fulfilling our demands. He is doing ok too - knows he has to work his butt off here on the weekends and shut up about it.

I was 17. Moved out the weekend after HS graduation. Most kids that age move out because of their parents, I moved about because my sister is the devil. 23 years later and we don't speak

18 years 3 weeks and 2 days homeless for a while finished high school yadda yadda...2 years later pulled my little sister out of the bedroom window at 1 am and won custody till she was 18. Never looked back, didn't want to.

My parents were happy to have me live with them as long as I was working or going to school and I did go back for short periods of time twice, but I always knew I had their support if I needed it and that made a big difference.
