At what age can you safely switch baby chicks from the chick starter? and do you put them right onto layer or is there some different food level in between? crumble or pellets?

I'm feeding medicated starter until they lay eggs. Then I will switch to layer. All I know that it's not good to give baby chicks calcium before they are ready due to causing health problems.

I think layer has extra calcium, but I'm not sure.

I read that about too much calcium being bad for chickens not of laying age as well. Laying food has added Calcium. My first group stayed on starter until they started laying. My 2nd and 3rd groups ate Purina Flock Raiser (grower food) starting at 8 weeks. Everybody grew (growing) up just fine!
