I especially need imput from you folks who sell things online on eBay & Amazon marketplace. I don't know how I should rate this transaction.

I bought a book from someone on Amazon Marketplace. It was described as being in "Used-good" condition. Some details were given about its overall condition, it was mentioned that there was some writing on the cover. When I received this book I was really disappointed to find underlining & writing all throughout the text, on most of the pages, even some pages with pencil line drawings covering the entire page.

I contacted the seller right away asking why this book was listed in "good" condition, how they could have missed including that detail in the description, why it wasn't mentioned. I asked for a full refund & offered to return the book only if they sent a pre-paid label.

A full refund was issued right away and no request was made to return the book.

Now, how do I rate this transaction? I always leave positive feedback for most transactions. But if there has been a problem that gets resolved I will just leave no feedback rather than negative feedback. I can't honestly say it was a completely positive experience, but neither was it a negative one. Should I leave a neutral rating & say there had been a problem but it was quickly resolved?

Sellers, would you rather get negative feedback or no feedback? By the way, this particular seller only has 13 other ratings, all positive.

Well, I'd say if they resolved the problem quickly like that, then that's good on them. I'd give good feedback, and mention that although you had a problem they took care of it quickly.

In some cases a netrual is worse than no feedback. Under the new ebay rules, someone choosing netrual drops the rating (anything less than a perfect score drops it).

Some folks idea of "good" is way different than mine. I would never have listed that book as "good." that being said, apparently the person was not just intending to be fraudulent otherwise they would not have given a refund. I'd leave positive feedback, as a buyer. As a seller, having given a full refund I would expect a good feedback or no feedback at all.

Give them good feedback for their willingness to resolve the problem. Buyers need to know things like that. As a seller, I would rather you notate that I resolved the problem rather than get a negative rating.

Rate them by being fair, and honest.

Begin with the fact fact that "fair to good" may be seen different
by different people. "Used" is not new. Pages missing? Binding broke?
Yellowed?

Judge fairly...I assume you paid in the desired time. Was the book sent right
out? Was there a problem in communication?

Address the issue fairly. Given the issue, and the sellers prompt action
in a full refund, would you buy another book from them?

I'd go with pretty high marks myself.

We all start somewhere. I remember when we started this trucking company.
I remember that first load...they gave me a chance. They didn't have to...but they
gave me a chance.

I'd also leave them positive feedback... they did the right thing by you.

Maybe just me, but a part of how I would treat the deal
would probably depend on my desire for the book.

Was it an expensive thing? Was it to of been a gift or something
for myself?

Some years ago my sister bought me some used books on E-bay.
The Brain Benton series of six books. Okay. They aren't a matched
set. And one of them isn't quite perfect. But they are still the complete
set of 40 year old books from my childhood. And I read them again.

Love having that mismatched set of books. Proud of them, proud of her
caring enough to do that for me.

Had a glass case made for them to display. No doubt I've got more in the
case than she did in the books.

So I guess I'm saying it really kinda depends on what you were after.
If it was a book I wanted for myself to keep....the writing wouldn't bother me.
Unless of course, the book was a dime-a-dozen still in print thing. Then I would
of bought myself a new one in the first place.

But if it was one from my early years....I'd know it was the memory I was buying.
Send them back the few dollars.
