How should you hold a chicken?

My mom said that once the girls start laying, I shouldn't be picking them up anymore...that I could crush their eggs.

Is there a way to safely pick them up once they start laying?

Interesting question... I'm no expert on this but I don't think it's a problem. The shell doesn't really harden until it exits the oviduct and hits the air.

Any experts out there have an answer????​

doesn;t matter, if it did. mine would be dead

, laying or non-laying. i pick mine up

I too use the football hold, but I place the bend of my arm around the wing area, just a little forward of this pic, this allows the butt to be further away from me, keeps me from getting pooped on.
