how smart are buff orpingtons ? mine seem kinda well dence lol

1 of my girls is very smart, the other is reasonably smart but does stupid things like takes a dust bath in a wet bog and the other is just plain thick. But I love them, such characters!

lol nice i have two of them and they still cant figure out what chicken wire is and why they cant get out threw it lol. my welsummer gets it lol
and can they be drasticly differant sizes i mean for the same age?

I have several - I'd say they were not as smart as my leghorns, but no dumber than the Wyandottes or Barred Rocks. And yeah, chicken wire can confound them when there is something on the other side they want. It can take a bit of running back and forth before they figure out to go through the door.

And they can be quite different in size - I have two hens from the same clutch; at 4 months one is about 2 lbs and the other is probably 5 lbs. All of my orpington hens are the sweetest chickens - the jury is still out of the roosters. I am hoping it is just a case of adolescent hormones because they are just acting like buttheads.

you are lucky you can have roosters the city i live in doesnt alow them. anyway my two are saddly no where near as smart as my welsummer who is half there age lol 7 weeks to 13 weeks lol
