How smart is your chicken?

Veeeeery smart, mine are, especially my buff orphingtons. When I'm out in the garden, if I so much as just pick up the shovel, my buffs come running at full tilt because they think I'm going to dig them some worms. They're right of course, cause after the belly laugh I get from seeing them run to me at full tilt, how could I not?

Maybe not so smart for practically diving under the shovel to be first in line for the fresh dirt, but I haven't hit one yet so I guess they're right to trust me.

I have a very smart hen that can escape (and get back in) the open run three ways: flying over the fence, squeezing under the door, and climbing straight up the fence and over. We were going to clip her wings but have admitted defeat. She too has perfected the act of landing on an arm to dislodge tasty treats. I also have a rooster who is a giant pansy and lets the hens steal his treats, but he knows if he lets me hold him he gets treats and the girls can't bully him.

This is my first year with chickens, and they are still chicks, but they are definatley smart. I have 2 Leghorns, 2 Orpingtons, and 2 Americanas. My Orpingtons know their names and come to me when I call them, even though i have only had them for a couple months. My Leghorns are always the first to find the treats that I put in their coop. But my Americanas are the leader of the flock, yet they aren't very smart at all... But I am very happy with my chickens and i love them!
