How soon can chicks be dusted for mites?

My chicks are almost 1 month old, and they have mites. Is it too early to dust them?

I dusted mine with dri-kill when they were younger then that.. I was just really careful not to use to much and not to use it anywhere around their eyes or mouth.. I actually put it in my hands and rubbed it on them like it was baby powder, apposed to just shaking it everywhere.. I made sure to treat the bedding too

How did they get mites at less than one month old?

when I bought my silkies from an auction they already had them from mom I think
