I have faith I can train my dogs to behave around me but they are terriers and if I'm not out there I know they can be prey driven. My 10 month old puppy catches mice all the time! Good quality to have with mice, not so good with chickens.
I know I have read chickens can fly 6 feet or so, but orpingtons are a big, heavy bird and flying is not high on their to-do list, hence my hope that a 4 footer would keep them grounded within their space.
