How tall should my run be?

Even my Brahmas clear the 4' fence to the garden.

I vote 6+ feet tall.

Mine is 6' tall on the run and guaranteed if hubby has to go in there I hear swearing at knocking his head.

Mine is 8' tall and no problem. It's also roofed, love it! Chickens hate snow, and I don't like shoveling, so life is better for all of us.

My hens would have to take the elevator. They can't fly higher than about two feet. GC

My coop is 12 ft high, rafters at 10 ft, birds perch on 6, 8, and 10ft high beams ... They love it!

You can clip wings of the lite-weight species.


Btw. 3 feet is garden fencing to keep rabbits and such out.

I have a "Noah's Ark" of chickens.
10 including the rooster, Mine is 10' X 20' and 6' high with a small cove for laying and fenced roof to ground.
Everyone gets along just fine and with 20 sq. ft. per bird they get plenty of crazy chicken running room.
6- 4 X 4's
20- 2 X 4 X 10'
100' roll of 4' poultry netting
150' roll of 3' poultry netting
1 roll of 20ga. wire for sewing the netting together
I left 1' of netting to lay out from the fence to discourage digging predators.

I'm close to $450 including lighting and auger rental for the 4X4 posts, door, hinges, staples, nails...
