Hi everybody! I am hoping to build a coop and run however my garden isn't huge so the run is going to be two storey to allow my hens to have 48 ft sq to run around in! However.. I am just wondering how tall should each storey be? Cleaning the run is not an issue as I will have easy access through long doors at the sides that was close with a lock to keep out predators! Please help!

I'm not sure your birds will use the run as you intend them to. I think that if I had a 2 storey run my hens would probably all spend most of their time in the lower level where they could scratch at the ground and pretty much ignore the top level.

I love the idea!
I think talkalittle has a good point, if you put a flooring they could forage around in would that work? Such as straw or shavings?
I always think the omlet runs look small (but im new and learning these guys know what they're doing!) They're 78cm high (about 2.5feet) maybe you could use that as a rough guide.

My coop and run are eight feet tall, and I'd recommend that you build tall enough to walk in, or cleaning, gathering eggs, and general maintenance will be much more difficult. My birds have roosts two, four, and eight feet up in the rafters, and some are up there! Tiny short coops look like dog houses or rabbit hutches, not chicken habitat. Mary

My run is going to be 8 ft. tall as well. I would spend my money on a tunnel outside the run instead of a second floor.
