How to advise a friend on their chicken care

Don't pay me much mind, okay? I'm dealing with poison ivy all over my lower legs and it's making me quite crabby, lol.
Hey! If you can, get some tecnu scrub at wal.mart. it will get the oil off your legs, then soak your legs in lukewarm water mixed with blitzed oatmeal. It's so soothing. Also when the itching was really bad I blasted it with the hottest water I could manage to get relief. It's amazing!

When you say "the husband," I really don't get the feeling these are good friends of yours and therefore I don't think it's going to go well for you to intervene. If they're building something new, you can't be critical of the past and get anywhere. So just hang tight, is my opinion. Many people come on BYC with stories of their own neglect, just as bad as your recap of these folks and worse. And they don't usually get so ripped by other BYC'ers. I think people are being critical about them because it's so indirect.
Well, they're friends but yes, I don't feel really connected to them. Like I said, we met them a year ago. But I didn't want to turn down caring for their hen because I know I might be the only person who could help them with that particular need. They went out of state and will be back in state next week, so someone would need to care for her and obviously she wouldn't be safe at home.

fyi tecnu only works to get oil off the skin, not out of the skin. Once it absorbs, you just have to treat it or you can scrub it to death with oil removing soap like dish soap or dry laundry detergent. I have eradicated poison oak with dry laundry detergent, and with using a sponge and dish soap. But you have to be willing to endure breaking the skin a bit to get the oil out.

I don't wish to be critical, just helpful, but I have a tendency to sound critical if I have concern so I ask others for advice on how to say things because that is a flaw of mine. This has been a helpful exchange, sometimes I get too invested in an animal's well-being when I really can't do anything about it.

Thank you. The oil has long been washed off. I don't have a tub so soaking is not an option. Hot water, as in the shower, proved to be a very BAD plan; cool or cold water, much better, and ice packs also help. But I appreciate the suggestions. The meds the dr ordered me are helping.

I use a 5 gallon bucket for the soak, you don't want the oatmeal to clog your pipes.
