I have tried all sorts of different things. Chicken pieces, legs, breasts, cat food, marshmallows...nothing is working.

So...I have come to the conclusion that the only venue I have left is live bait.

I am hoping that a quail will work. Does anyone have any experience in live-baiting a trap?

It's a have-a-hart trap. I'm not against snaring, clamping...anything though. The trap is just there to catch. I FULLY plan on dispatching whatever gets caught in it.

Any ideas?

I would put the quail in a small cage against the back of the trap and cover the other sides and top forcing your predator to come at the quail from the front through the trap. Your problem may be a coon that someone has already trapped and relocated to your area. You may consider putting a leghold trap close to the live trap so if the coon comes close and works his way around your live trap he may step in your leghold. Be sure to bed the trap good and put a stick to the side so he steps over the stick into the trap.

It should yes.
Put a piece of wax paper over the pan and under the jaws so when you cover it with loose dirt it doesn't get under the pan. That way you know it will trip whenit is stepped on.

best bait I have found is sardines,I have tried sweetbaits for raccoons and never did have any luck, the only thing about using sardines is skunks like them too,I had to remove a skunk last week from one of my live traps,no problem if you let them stay in the trap at least over night ,they seem to calm down and stop fighting the wire, walk slowely up to the cage, spread a tarp over it,ease open the door and prop it open with a wood block or whatever is handy,I always catch the tip of the tarp in my hand and walk away, taking the tarp with me,I have released seveal this way and been lucky so far,the trick is to move slowely and softly,,don,t get a skunk afraid or excited,,you know what happens

OK....this thing is STILL playing mind games.

There are now two huge poo piles on TOP of my coop. I'm not talking "little" poop. This poop is as big as some of the dumps my labs take.
