I’m definetly not going to be able to build a new coop before Winter, so if it never works out and there’s already snow on the ground I’ll just let them sleep in the second coop.

That's a climate and seasonally dependant accurate statement. OP gets nasty winters I believe.

I guess every Winter is different here...we ARE putting a tarp over the run once the wire is on before we put metal on the roof next summer.

One year we had a completely no-snow-Winter, and then this year was horrible. Wisconsin is weird that way.

Make darn sure you have lots of rafters holding up the mesh under that tarp or the snow load will just tear it down. Might be cheaper to put up the metal roofing than the mesh.

The chickens made it through their first night together! I left the door open last night so the hens could leave before any tension was created.
