How to build a nest?

I need help! Ivy pooped on and ruined all her nesting pads and we don't have any more for her. We don't have enough time to go to the store and buy more for her. So, what can I use for a substitute and if I need to how do I put it together?

hay, straw, pine shavings, really a lot of stuff.

Anything soft can be a good nesting pad, you just don't want the eggs to break when they hit it. I use a combo of pine shavings and straw. You could use leaves or grass clippings if you have them available, and old scrap of carpet, an old t-shirt, shredded black and white newspaper (not glossy magazines or color print).

You are so welcome! Sometimes having chickens requires us to get creative! It's good to be able to re-purpose something you already have at home.

Fold up a used feed bag to fit the nest box, then top with your nesting material of choice. Even if they dig and kick the nesting material around the feed bag will stay in place to provide cushion.
