Hi I was wondering what to look for when candling eggs at 6 fish days? I know you're supposed to wait until 7, I put them in last Sunday night, but Sunday morning is the only day I can do it and I really want to know if it's working. I have a store bought candler that works pretty good and a very dark laundry room I can candle them in. I have tried candling eggs before but this is my first time incubating eggs and its really hard for me to tell what's going on in there. I also really want to know if they are alive because I messed up the temp for a little while. Any tips on what to look for and signs that they are not fertile/died? -Thanks everyone :)

Hi. This is the fun/ satisfying/ terrifying time.

Put your hand over the light.
Grab an egg.
Put the big end over the light and find the air sac.
You get a much better look when you can stop any light coming up the sides.
Now kind of turn egg keeping air sac in one place. The air sac can help get light into the egg.
You should see a dark spot with veins coming out of it.
Careful not to jiggle egg, spin slowly.
If you just see a clear egg it is not fertile. Grab an egg from the fridge to compare.
If you see a blood ring it died sometime after it started developing.
Take a look at the articles for pics.
