How to catch those quick birds?

I prefer to wait until they have gone to bed of an evening and pluck them off the roost like grapes off a vine. Easier on them and me both.

:thumbsup

I feel stupid that it took me a year of owning chickens to figure this one out, but since I have I've never chased a chicken again. It really helps to invest in a good headlamp, as it is easier to examine a chicken with both hands free.

It's easier if they're on the roost at night than freaking them out trying to catch them with a net, hook, or cornering them. If one is loose I wait until night time to get it because they can't really see too well at night.

Most of mine I can pick up, but my bantam polish are complete psychos and run like lunatics if you come within 5 feet of them. I didn't raise them and the person who had them wasn't very hands on with them. My jersey giant roosters are two of never pick up unless it's night time, their beaks are 3 times the size of a regular chicken and they know how to use them.

Not stupid, lol. Everything is a learning process. You're right about the headlamp.. I could feel stupid that it took me eight years of owning chickens to wonder if anyone had invented such a thing! :gig
