I have 7 laying hens in a neighborhood where it is against the HOA but not the city ordanance. Raised them all from chicks, both neighbors on either side of my 1 acre lot gave their blessings before I brought the chicks home. Our home backs up to 22 acres of undeveloped woodlands. I received a letter from HOA board stating they LIVESTOCK had been brought to their attention and needed to be removed immediately. Have any of you out there overcome this with an HOA - HELP I am trying to save our pet hens!

What exactly do your CC&Rs say about livestock, poultry & pets? Depending on the phrasing, you may be able to keep them as pets. You could also start a petition for a change in the CC&Rs.

If it is a rule rather than a CC&R, you have a pretty good chance on winning the argument that the board went beyond its authority in regulating what you can do on your porperty--it all depends on the documents.

It is apart of the covenants. They are clear, only 4 pets and no livestock including poultry. I guess I need to start a petition. Any suggestions on how to word it?
