I have been interested having some chickens. I called the town hall and they told me chickens are not allowed. Then I was told to read the ordinance. The ordinance reads that I can have fowl. But they have to be kept 200 hundred feet from any dwelling that is used for habitation, occupation, or assembly. I have a spot in my yard that is 185 feet from any structure that falls under that definition.
Also our state capital has allowed chickens inside city limits. As long as they are kept 25 feet from any dwelling that is used for habitation, occupation, or assembly.
My question is what is my best course of action to get this ordinance changed to a shorter distance to any dwelling?
