How to choose roos to eat vs keep?

Got a new batch of chicks in February, unsexed fancy breeds. Bit of a mistake - they're all too cute! yes, we're newbies. Roo-ness runs rampant through these, and DH and I were intending to butcher the roos after choosing only one or two (we only want to have ten as our optimal hen number).

Two are not at all pretty or friendly. Probably will be great laying hens. DH loves the black frizzle cochin and some other thing with super feathered feet. I wanted a flock building pair of chochins or BO's. The silkie is supposed to be my broody. Newbie paranoia - but I swear they're almost all roos.

Guess we'll be offering these roos for sale/trade on Craig's List. Next time, its a big batch of all RIR or something that all look exactly the same.

How do you experienced folks pick out a keeper and send the rest to freezer camp? (I TOLD them not to name the dratted things)

First members of freezer camp are mean/aggressive roos.

Next, if we've got 2 nice roos, both are good with the hens, then I go for type.

Final ruling - younger roos go first. They are tastier.

Thanks! I believe we are victims of chicken math, as 4 + 11 does not equal ten. I figure another month or two will tell for these early Feb hatch chicks.

I usually eat the meanest ones first.
