How to Deal With Travel Stress in Baby Chicks

I ordered GroGel from Meyer when I ordered my chicks. This is my initial foray into chickens so they will be my first chicks ever! Is the product you are recommending something to give in addition to the GroGel? Or, is it kind of the same type of thing?
-------------
Yes, it is different from Grogel. GroGel is made specifically for the new chick. It is a wonderful product and contains everything the new or shipped chick needs, including hydration for their journey or at the start after hatch.
Poultry Nutri-Drench is made by Bovidr Labs. (see first post in this thread). It is made for all life stages of poultry. By this company which specializes in emergency nutritional supplements for many species of creatures.
It is very important we understand the following so we are giving our needy babies the supplements they can best use. The G.I tract is where the creature gets the nutrients up-taken for their well-being. When stress occurs, the G.I. tract doesn't function as well. The nutrients the creature needs don't reach the body systems the creature needs to perform so it can thrive. Poultry Nutri-Drench ( like the other Drenches and Drops which Bovidr Labs makes). is designed to mainline all these vital nutrients, vitamins, enzymes and minerals directly into the bloodstream. It does not need to be digested like other nutritional supplements. This is crucial to success. You can feed a creature all kinds of help, but if environmental challenge is keeping the G.I tract from up-taking the helps, it does little good. Bovidr Labs drenches and drops are excellent for stressed and needy creatures with G.I. tracts which aren't performing well. Have used them on my puppies and poultry for years as a preventative against stress. You don't have to wait until a problem surfaces to use them. My chicks have PND in their water from hatch on.
PND is very concentrated. A small bottle goes a long way. Very economical, with a long shelf life.

Thank you, Karen, for the additional input. I love that the Nutri-Drench is absorbed directly into the bloodstream. I definitely will buy some. I don't want to "overdo" it, though...so while I understand that ND and GroGel are two different products with different mechanisms of action, would it be overwhelming to the chickies to have both products at the same time? Thinking that if that's the case, I'll cancel the GroGel order and stick with ND.
Sorry for all the newbie questions! I'm grateful for the help of experienced people like yourself.

You don't need both. Just use the ND. If budget allows, get the GroGel too. It is a dry compund with a long shelf life. Great to have around if you are shipping chicks to someone. .
Best,

There's nothing wrong with giving them both though, is there? I have goslings coming either tomorrow or the day after and I ordered GroGel with them. It was my understanding it was going to be put in the box with them, and then I planned to give them the Nutri-Drench once they arrived. If it's just a dry packet I'll only use the ND, but I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be harmful for them to have both if it was in the box.

Yes, that is right The GroGel is bought as a dry powder. When you add water, it expands a whole lot and looks like green jello. It is put on the bottom of the traveling box
or in a small saucer on the bottom of the traveling box while the birds are in transit. By the time the birds reach you, it should be prety much used up. The hydration lasts about 2 days or so. That's why I usually put in 10 times as much as the birds need in transit. They will eat what they need and there's more hydration in a larger volume. So when the birds reach you, they should be ready for the PND. It doesn't hurt to give them both at the same time, just redundant and a waste of one or the other.
Best,
Karen

Thanks for your reply 3riverschick! My 4 goslings arrived in great condition and the GroGel in their box was all gone, so I put ND in their water.

Thought I'd give an update. I picked up my 15 chicks from the post office this morning...YEAH!!!!

All were alive, thank goodness. I gave them each a drop of PND as I took them from the shipping box and put them in the brooder, then dipped their beaks in the water. (I put Vital Pak in the water today; will put the PND in when I replace the water tomorrow.) It wasn't long before each and every one of them was skittering around the brooder having a good old time. They had so much energy!! I waited til they all had some water on board before introducing the chick feed (gave them about 3 hours). I have been absolutely amazed at how active they are and how vigorous they seem...I became a big believer in the PND. Thanks much for the info, 3riverschick!!
