How to deep liter

How deep does it have to be to work? My nest boxes are only 5 inches off floor-debating between sand and deep liter but that is not alot of room for deep liter is it?

i don't know,they have a deep litter thread you can check out,i am going to do this method to but i have plenty of space for it,good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!
