How to deliver a coop??

I've been looking on craigslist for a chicken coop forever and I finally found one in my area! I'm so excited. How do I go about moving it/transporting it??? Its one of those purina mills type houses, so its kind of big and heavy. We don't even own a truck, so I need to hire someone. Has anybody done this before?? How do you move a coop?

I would think you need a flat trailer and a couple of strong guys (maybe from a moving company) if the trailer had ramps, like for hauling a car. Back it up real close and jack up the front of the coop, back the ramps in further, jack it up some more and back up some more until it got to the point they could to push it in or have a comealong roped to front of trailer. I think U Haul provide a couple of guys. If not ,then rent the trailer and hire a couple of guys from manpower.

Why don't you see if you can hire someone locally? Around here, I'd check the local paper for ads by people who might have the right equipment, such as for excavating or backhoe work, and / or I'd ask at the local hardware store. It's possible the owner knows someone, too.

We found a local guy who builds coops and have the same issue, so we asked him if he would make it as a kit so we can put it together ourselves at home. He's made the sides, the floor and the roof sections, so we just have to move flat pieces - is that an option for you?

We had the same problem when we tried to move a large tractor we bought. I called a couple handy man/movers I found locally for quotes. One guy told me $400!

I thanked him kindly, but told him I couldn't spend 4X what the coop cost and almost a weeks pay for an hour of his time and the use of his trailer. He came agreed that might be a bit high and came back with $250.

Luckily we just managed to fit it in my dad's pickup, but it was a sight going down the road!

My last resort was to rent a u-haul van, that would have cost me about $140. If you have a vehicle with a tow hitch you can rent trailers as well from them, at least around here.

I just had one moved, I called a person that does Towing and had a flat bed tow truck. People buy and move outdoor sheds all the time. Call around someone will do it, your smaller tow truck companies are bound to be needing some business.

I would say try calling a wrecker with a flatbed......or post an ad on craigslist with the shed dimensions and what you need. I would add some bracing to it to keep it really sturdy during loading/unloading. Also consider where you want it in your yard and how you will get it there. A pickup with a trailer can potentially maneuver into places a flat bed could not.

sometimes the storage places will lend their trucks for free for the advertising of have it driven around town.
not so much "public storage" but private local storage companies - worth a try
