Near where mine like to roost, I made a nest out of straw and put a few fake eggs in it. Next thing I knew, they were laying there, instead of in the woods.

I've found that I have to mark the eggs and leave one in the nest otherwise, if I take all the eggs each day, they freak out and move their nest. They are smart birds. I got lazy a month ago and started taking them all, instead of dating them and leaving one behind. One of my hens didn't like that and flew off into the woods and I couldn't find that nest for anything. She showed up today with six baby turkeys! I'm wondering how that is going to go being that it is getting pretty chilly around here lately.

Here's a picture of one of my turkey hens nesting this summer with the silkie hen that decided to join her. The white egg is one of the fake ones that I used to get them started in the pen (which is open to a large fenced and wooded area they roam around in).
