How to euthanize a sick hen

I have checked for ear mites, ears seem clear and she did not present with mites in her body. She is now only lying, in the same spot, moving her legs around as if trying to move or get up, but unable to do so. I don't know what else to do, she doesn't seen to be in any pain and when we checked her, was quite subdued. We bathed her today, as sitting in the box of hay, her faeces was stuck to her. We had to hold her up, she didn't fight the bath and once done, we now have her lying again on some towels in the box we have provided her. She isn't raising her head anymore, isn't eating and I am really worried. I have read all the advice on how to euthanise her and cannot do it. Is there any hope for her or do we really need to take her to the vet. I feel very sorry for her and my children are affected, but the thought of losing her is distressing them already. Any advice would be appreciated!

If I treat my chicken's ears with the veg. oil and she doesn't have mites (I have checked, don't think I saw anything but not sure), will it harm her?

It sounds to me....and this is IMO....but It would be best to put her down. I am so sorry......I do think she is in pain... as some diseases are very bad. Yes It can effect children deeply. I have a almost 15 yr old girl... she insists (when younger) to name the animals we have had.

we raised 4 pigs from babies and other animals as well.....and she named them all. (She has also named our chickens) I am sure she will name the new baby goat that was born this week also.

we sold some and kept some. the ones we kept are now in our freezer. She has also learned from this. we do not shelter her as far as life and death issues. Because she will have to face death sooner or later...I would prefere she learned it from me rather than learning from my death.

We have always told her they will be used for food. or if they would get sick or hurt they could die. life isn't always easy for us or our children. I do think your children are stronger than we think and if you explain that.... this is whats best for our suffering animals then they will understand. No... they won't like it very well but they will accept it.
