How is this done? I have a Momma chick with one baby in the brooder pen. Eventually I am going to introduce them back to the flock. How do I do this feed wise? The chick will need medicated chick starter for awhile right? Is it bad for the layers to eat medicated feed for extended periods of time? And what about the eggs, will they be okay?

thanks
Chris

I don't feed medicated feed to chicks if I can find unmedicated. I have heard on here that you should not feed chicks Layer feed at all. If you could find unmedicated chick feed that would work fine for both. Just my opinion

Medicated chick starter is fine if the med is Amprolium. It's not an antibiotic and won't affect the eggs at all when the momma hen starts laying again.

Layer feed is NOT good for chicks, they don't need and can't use the extra calcium.

You can put out oyster shell free choice for the hen, she'll take what she needs but the chicks won't get too much.
