How to find a processor?

did you try several phone number sites, its weird but some buisnesses are in one and not another, maybe there in a local spanish paper that might have a place advertised. Good luck sorry it is so hard it is just not as common as it used to be.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this so early in your chicken-keeping experience. I'm hoping you got some hens out of your first batch of chicks? Where did you get them? I always advise folks to have a Plan B in place for any unwanted roos they might get from their chicks, but eight is a lot to have to deal with.

I'm also sorry if I came on too strong with the recommendation to attempt home processing, I didn't know your circumstances. I can understand if it seems a bit daunting at this time. You could post an offer for them on your local Craigslist or FreeCycle, or on the bulletin board at your local feed store. You could work out whatever arrangement that feels best with the folks taking your roos, whether you want to watch or help with the processing, or just divide the meat when they've finished, or just sell/give them away.

I wish you success with your roo dilemma, and with your future chicken-keeping endeavors.

I ordered online from Meyer Hatchery and split the order with our pastor and my sister - I got 24, pastor got 12, and sister got 4. Out of those 40, there are apparently 3 roos, and they all ended up with our pastor! That was in March.

Then in April, I decided I wanted to add to my BO's EE's, and Speckled Sussex, with some RIR's. I only wanted about 6-8 more, didn't want to crowd them, and with shipping, etc. I decided it would be more economical/quicker to find a local supplier. Our local guy did NOT have Speckled Sussex, which is why I didn't just buy local in the first place.

So off I went to pick up 8 RIR pullets in April, the guy wasn't there, his wife was, the bin was labeled RIR-P, so she pulled 8 out of the bin, checked a couple of wings and said "yep, these are the little girls". I took them and went home. Here I am 3-1/2 months later with 8 RIR roos...

I did find a local buddy, though! I checked on the Where Am I? Where are YOU! section of the forums and sent off a flurry of e-mails.

We are trying to schedule a time for me to bring them over either this weekend or next.

THANKS to all who offered helpful suggestions!

That's great, I'm glad you found a BYC neighbor who is able to help. Can you contact that local supplier to get replacements/refunds? It seems certain it was an error on their part. I don't know for sure if you can feather sex RIRs anyway.

I wish you continued success with your flock!
