How to find local Ordinances?

We're looking into moving to somewhere in Maryland, Virginia or possibly West Virginia, and since I'm the Chicken Boss of the household I want to make sure I can keep my flock, and would like to look into expanding it in the future (and maybe adding a turkey or two). I don't know much about laws and I'm having some trouble researching local laws regarding poultry, for example I've been looking at Harpers Ferry in WV and only found that you can't keep anything noisy (so I assume no roosters) but nothing about how big of a flock is OK.

Can anyone help with some search terms or point me to a database?

I looked at my Townships' website and found information about animals. I also talked with some nearby people that had chickens. I also called the Township President to see if I needed a building permit because the online information said that if a building would cost more that $500 and is permanent, I would need a permit. I asked him if the $500 refers to supplies or what I would sell it for, he told me it was up for interpretation. So, I built my coop and if I ever sell it which I won't, I'll sell it for $499 and it is free standing and can be moved (with a forklift).
