Is it possible that the chick could just be sleeping somehwere and not be near it's mum?

from what i have seen at my friends house she has a mother hen and one chick and the mom stays right by her side. The chick slipped through the fence a few weeks ago and the mother stayed by the fence in a slight panic while the chicks paced the fence peeping frantically to get back in. I retrieved the chick and the mom followed me to the nest box which is where I put her back into to get back to mama. How is your mother hen reacting? and is there a chance the chick could have slipped out of the pen?how old is your chick and how big is the area they are confined to?

The chick is only a few days old. The hen isn't reating very obviously... but she is sitting down alot... She isn't standing nearany specific part of the pen though is it possible that the chick would return in the evening?

The pen is only about a fe metres wide and around two metres in height so there isn't much room for hiding? How can a encourage the chick to tweet if it still alive?
