I put a want ad on Craigslist last week for an old childrens playhouse, old shed, or decking material. A couple days after placing the ad a guy emailed me a picture of his kids old playhouse they didn't use any more and said "If you want it you can have it for free. Come and get it" When I called him about it he said that it would have to be taken apart to get it out of the back yard as they had to take down a big section of his fence to get it in there 5 years ago. I would have prefered to just pick it up with my trailer but beggers cant be choosy! So I eagerly agreed and Kathleen and I went and tore it apart, loaded it up, and I had it almost back together by Saturday night. Grant it, the roof still needed to be redone because it was cedar shakes and never was ment to be leak proof. Monday I tore the cedar off and started putting the new roof on. I just happed to have a few bundles of dimensional shingles left over from a previous project last year so I didn't have to buy those. The exterior is put back together and painted now so now the fun begins. I need to first put in a big door into the back so I can easily have access to the interior. Then I still need to install a pop door, nesting boxes, perch, insulation and interior paneling, fluorescent light, ceramic heat emitter with thermostat control, linoleum on the floor for easy cleaning, and of course the fencing all around for the run.... and a bunch of other little stuff like windows, etc......... Most all of the materials to do those things just happened to be laying around here as well from other times I have gotten stuff free or cheap from Craigslist. Now grant it, it wont hold 30+ chickens like my big coop does, but it will be perfect for a breed that we wanted to add for exhibition. I will try to update this as this project progresses so stay tuned.

NEW UPDATES AT BOTTOM

Here are some of the before and after pics.

Here is what it looked like. Notice this thing is sitting on the ground. Most all of the lumber rotted underneath of it so I did have to build a new floor for it which again, I already had the material from a previous time I had picked up free decking materials.

NEW UPDATES!!!!! 9/26/2010
At long last, I am much closer to being finished but I still have a ways to go. I added a man door onto the back (in which I still need to insulate, finish, and touch-up the paint work). This made it much easier to do the work on the inside and also makes cleaning, feeding, etc. much easier to do.

With the door in I started on the nest box.

hmmmmm I have a neighbor who has an old play house in her yard too. Her son is my age so I know he doesn't play in it anymore. hmmmmmmm

I think its time to take some eggs and a basket of green beens and go visiting. Great idea

The color was my wifes idea and I went along with it. I will be putting sultans in there. They are fluffy white furball looking little things so they should look good in it.
