How to get a coop basicly free.... NEW UPDATES 9/26/2010!!

We remodeled our old playhouse and it has a cute porch with a railing on the front like yours. Yours is so cuteGREAT JOB! I have been playing with the idea of puting hardware cloth on theporch for a "sleeping porch" . it is mighty hot here and I am not satisfied with the nighttime safety of my run.

I have been thinking about this very thing! I am glad you showed the "exploded view" I will copy that to make my new coop. I too have all "the good stuff" lying about that I have picked up curbside. I doubt my coop will be as cute as yours (being cobbled together) but this gives me hope! Thanks--Terri O

Thanks everyone for your nice complements. I just want all of the new chicken owners to know that a coop doesn't have to cost a lot to be both functional and neat. Craiglist is a very good resource. I was reading other posts about Craigslist finds after posting mine and some have found great little mini barns that I hope to score on as well. So remember, you don't have to sacrifice the looks to save a buck. Lots of these things end up in the land fill. Seems a waste doesn't it? If you need one then just watch the free section on Craigslist, and even do what I did and post a wanted add. I have anouther 8x8x8 shed to go and get this next week! Got this one from the same wanted add. Even if i don't use it right away, I will definetly use it!

Touche, Rob. Can't believe that I did that; proof positive of senility setting in.

Sorry about that! Ya know what? I've been thinking for a couple of months that your name was Don. Don't ask!

Thanks! But it isn't finished yet. I still have quite a few things to do to it to make it a "coop". Right now it still pretty much still just a playhouse. I did get a human access door put into the back yesterday. Next I'll be building a nesting box on the side. Check back for more pictures. I'll be updating once I get the nesting boxes and pop door installed.
