how would you go about getting a blue chicken out of a breed that typically doesn't have a blue?

say a polish.

Unless im missing something ive never seen a all blue polish and they are at least not one of the more pop. varieties.

so mainly on polish, but what about all other breeds?

To breed blue into a breed, you would want a black variety of breed, then by breeding to blue about half the offspring will be blue. Of course if you use a blue of a different breed you have a mixed breed.

Here is a list of color /varieties.
You can go to the club page to get a lot of information on the breed...

LOL, that is the million dollar question. They are a splash Polish mix. I am am not sure if the splash was the hen or the roos. The only other hen in the pen was a RIR but later on there were other roos that matured besides the splash. So it was the splash hen with any of several different roos or it was the RIR hen with the splash roos. The hens have different body types so I am inclined to believe it was the splash hen with different roos.
