I am new to raising chickens. I have 2 Buff Orfington hens that I cannot get to go into the coop by themselves.
I've put them in myself and closed the door after sundown. They don't fight me and settle down right away.
How do I get them to come and go in and out by themselves?
Thanks

Have you whipped them with the belt yet?
It usually makes them listen better...

JUST KIDDING....

How old are they and how long have they been out in the coop?

They are 10 weeks. I got them at 6 weeks and kept them in a dog kennel as they were too big for my brooding box until last weekend when I finished the coop.

Leave them in the coop for a few days...let them get familiar with it before you try letting them out again.

They also refuse to roost when in coop, they just hang out on the floor in the pine shavings
Any tips on getting to actually roost?

How high it the roost bar?
Could it be too high?
They may need a ladder to get up to it.

Can you post a pic of your coop please.

This it too cute!

Hm....I would think it's not too high then.
Jus give them a few more days to adjust and get use to their new home.
They are probably still freaked out from the move.
