You need to house chicks in such a way that they see the most of you physically.
If they're housed so that they mostly see hands from above they think you are a predator.
Letting them see you is key, you are much less fearsome as a whole.
It is much easier to relate this to very young ones, it takes quite a long time to convince older ones you are more than grabby hands.
