I "rescued" 2 chicks from TSC today. They both have bloody areas, one on its wing and one where its tail used to be. They would only sell me the min amount of 6. So now I have 4 other chicks picking at the wounds. My brooder isn't really big enough to seperate them and be able to give them all heat, food and water. I applied Blue Kote, but they are still picking.

Is there anything else I can do? The wonderful TSC employee instructed me to spray the wounds with HAIR SPRAY!! Ouch!

FWIW, all the chicks look to be about 2-3 days old and are eating, drinking and pooping just fine. 2 Amber-links and 4 GLW:)

I really went into TSC with NO intention of coming out with ANYTHING alive, honest! So much for that...

Erin09,

It is hard to go to TSC and not come out with chicks isn't it.

Put some pine sap on the picked areas. Of course the chicks will pick at the pine sap, but that stuff tastes so bad no chick i know will try to eat it again. most of them will wipe their mouths out on the ground after the first taste.

good luck with your birds.

In a pinch I use old oven racks, extra screen, whatever I can to divide a brooder box. Just a couple days of Blu-Kote or Neosporin will do wonders for chicks.

Neosporin or the generic, but without any pain relievers.
