How to get diesel smell out of clothing?

We have 3? males that work on diesels plus everyone else that comes over. I soak the clothing in Dawn dishsoap (original) for a day, then wash in cold water and hang outside. Never put them in dryer till all smell is gone or your next batch of clothes in dryer will smell too. Sometimes it takes two washings and hanging outside.

Does the Coca-Cola stain clothes? The shorts that I am washing are white plaid, they didn't get much on them, but now they smell cuz I washed everything together...

Just did an internet search to get help with washing diesel out of clothes. OMG and here I am back at BYC. People who live out deal with challenges that are unique. Love that you not only answer my bird questions, but I get practical solutions to regular day to day managing my little hobby farm. :love

DH just picked up a pair of mechanics overalls - they stay out in the machine shed. Maybe I will need to wash them at some point, but he is really good about wearing them and not bringing them into the house. I am sure I will need to wash them one of these days, lol.
However, a little while ago our truck broke a fuel line while on the way to work. When he opened the hood to see what was up, he got sprayed with diesel - on his work clothes. When we stopped at the auto parts store to get the replacement part, I asked for any advice on getting the smell out of his clothes. The guy behind the counter handed me a sample of a laundry detergent that is aimed at getting out automotive smells. It did a really good job. And now I can't remember what it was called... :<
